Therapeutic Horseback Riding Morrigan Burns, Multiple Grade Levels This grant will fund horseback riding lessons at Riding to the Top in Windham for six students in the Life Skills program. The goal of the project is to challenge students with special needs in a supportive environment while reinforcing and extending skills that the students learn at school. Students gain skills in communication, motor and sensory development, independence, and self-esteem. Funds requested will cover bus rides and lessons.

Egg Tempera Workshop at the Metropolitan Museum of Art Marguerite Lawler-Rohner, Multiple Grade Levels This grant funds tuition, travel and accommodations to attend a workshop in New York. Students will then be introduced to the process used extensively in the Renaissance as a means of connecting art processes with art history in a meaningful way. A long term goal is to use egg tempera in permanent fresco mural projects in the hallways of the school.

World Affairs Council Gretchen McNulty, Multiple Grade Levels This grant covers expenses anticipated with a new activity at CEHS. Students meet weekly with a structured agenda to plan and discuss issues of global importance. Currently, 57 students have attended at least 3 meetings. Plans are to enhance the program with speakers, discussions, films and related events. Plans also include a community event titled The People Speak. Students will be researching and writing position papers for Model UN Conferences.

Improvisation Jazz Lab Tom Lizotte, Multiple Grade Levels This grant will add a jazz lab to supplement the existing jazz curriculum in the CEHS band program. Funds will be used to purchase a computer and software called Band in a Box, which will enable students and teachers to learn the art of improvisation. The software allows song features such as tempo or key to be changed and isolated, allowing a new appreciation of musical structure. The lab can be used with the existing sound system for amplification.
