Cape Elizabeth schools’ mission lies within the belief that all students can learn, be challenged and supported in their learning environment.  Cape Elizabeth prides itself in being one of the top school school systems in Maine and has created an environment that is enthusiastic, innovative and collaborative thus providing for a higher level of learning and achievement for the students.

Cape Elizabeth itself has had a strong history of education dating back to 1731.  Initially there were four separate districts with a “moving” grammar school.  The Pond Cove district, where the current elementary school exists today, dates back to 1790 and has had several locations over the years.  The current “campus” configuration dates back to the 1950s and provides for a sense of community as the schools (Pond Cove Elementary School, Cape Elizabeth Middle School and Cape Elizabeth High School) share athletic fields, close proximity to the public library, public safety and town center.  The campus is centrally located in the heart of Cape Elizabeth providing a “home” base for the community.

Cape Elizabeth is located five miles east of Portland, Maine and has a population of approximately 9,000 people.  Cape Elizabeth is known for its outstanding natural features.  It borders the Atlantic Ocean and is home to several lighthouses, including the landmark Portland Head Light which marks the entrance to Portland Harbor.  It has a diverse coastal geography ranging from rocky coastline to sandy beaches.  Cape Elizabeth also has a historically agricultural base from which many small locally owned farms still exist.

Cape Elizabeth is a predominately residential community that values efficiency and education.  Recently, Maine passed a school consolidation law to streamline districts across the state and thus realize operating and cost efficiencies while maintaining a high level of education.  School units that were highly efficient and who have at least three "higher performing" schools, were exempt from consolidation.  All three of Cape Elizabeth schools qualified as higher performing.  More than 90% of graduating high school seniors go on to attend post secondary school education.
